Traveling along SR 19, not far from Alexander Springs in the Ocala National Forest, you will find a nice quiet campground right on Lake Dorr. I originally wanted to camp at Alexander Springs however as usual, it was full. One of the park rangers at Alexander Springs pointed me just a few miles down the road towards Lake Dorr and it turned out to be a wonderful alternative close by the springs. The campground host was very nice and accommodating. I was told that Lake Dorr is a great place to take the boat out for fishing or water activities.
The 34 sites were all fairly level and provided a large grassy area with plenty of room for tents and most campers and RVs. Many of the sites had wonderful shade trees and brush which provided privacy. All of the sites had bear boxes, picnic tables, a post, a fire ring, and use of a shared water faucet but no electric. The bathroom facilities were nicely maintained you had to have a code to access them. This campground allows pets on a leash. Please stay bear aware in this area. I was also advised to be aware of the gators and snakes in the lake and surrounding area.
I give this campground a 5 thumbs up.
Be sure to check the website and/or call for current prices. It was only $12 when I was there in the fall 2019 and the website lists $12 and also $20.
