The Georgia Guidestones… have you ever heard of them or seen them? I have to admit that I’ve been curious about them ever since watching a documentary about them some time ago. Little is really known about them other than a mysterious man or organization had large stone slabs erected with new age commandments or statements for maintaining and living on the earth inscribed on them in 8 different languages as well as other cryptic codes and astrological aspects built into them. There is also a time capsule buried there with no specific date for opening it. Some theories suggest it is a guide for survivors of a doomsday event in the future and of course there are several other suggested theories.

Well this past month during my recent travels I got the chance to see them. In a remote area near Elberton Ga, sitting atop a hill, surrounded by a fence and security cameras, and not really much else, I found them. I was full of anticipation after watching the documentary again and doing a bit of research to learn more about them. Some people report strong energy fields and spiritual qualities at the site. Some feel it is filled with foreboding energies. Some feel it’s just a marketing ploy for tourism.

As I drove up the hill I spotted several people wandering around the stones and taking pictures. There was an older couple who were complaining for driving all the way out there to see nothing. A group of young people in their twenties and thirties seemed really captivated by the mystery of it and the inscriptions and various markings on the stones. While walking around the stones I also met a young man who had books, a measuring tape, a calculator, and a notebook. I talked to him as he feverishly wrote down things in his notebook. I was curious about what he was doing. Thinking he was a college student working on a project or something I asked what he was studying so intently. He looked up at me with wide eyes like I was an old fool and said ” Everything! Just everything!” I’m guessing that I annoyed him a bit so I gave him some space but continued to watch him. He took measurements, pictures, drawings, looked up things in books, and was completely serious about his time there.

As for me, I think I was more interested in the people and their reactions to the stones and the lingering question of why they were built there in the middle of nowhere? I can’t say that I felt any kind of energy vortex or anything mystical in the air but it was a strange experience to say the least. Many of the people there were disturbed by the statement or commandment at the top of the Stone regarding the population control for the Earth. The younger crowd was discussing it and debating it. Another couple debated the theory as to who built it and why. It was interesting how so many different types of people came to see these stones and had so many different theories, thoughts, emotions, and knowledge about them. It was very thought provoking as I got back to the highway and on to my next destination.
