Touchpoints

I heard a conversation recently debating the strength of people bonded by genes vs people bonded by some other connection. We all know that old saying that blood is thicker than water but is it really? When i gave birth to my children I knew upon all knowing that there would be no greater love for me than my love for them. I loved my other family members but the bond that I have with my children is more than I could ever have imagined even as they became adults. My mother always said that too but I never understood until they were born. Some of the debate that I overheard was how we rank our love for others. Where do certain people rank in our lives and with the level of love we feel? Is there an automatic ranking? Children, Partner, Parents, Siblings, Friends, Pets??? Where do you rank your loves? Or do you rank them at all? Have you ever thought of it that way? I think that we all have friends that we might be closer to than some of our family members because we click, we bond, we have things in common. So is it more of a spiritual connection that we share? A knowing of souls? When we meet someone and automatically bond with them is it our energy connecting?

Yet last weekend I attended a family funeral and I saw cousins that I hadn’t seen in over 20 years and the bond, the feeling, that family connection came flooding back as if I had spent the last 20 years just waiting to see them again. That bond that is inertly there. That blood bond. How is it that siblings that have been separated at birth reunite and immediately bond like they had never been separated. How about our adopted children? I have seen so many parents of adopted children feel exactly the same that I feel about my children willing to give their own lives for them. What about our pets? I have had the great opportunity to experience the love of a pet. At what level are we connecting with them? I know some folks that would rank their pets above their partner. I see the love that my son and his fiance feel for each other. It is a fantastic love and bond that is so beautiful to see and the love I feel for my future daughter in law is as if she were my own daughter. It’s as if she was meant to be in our family. She is a part of us.

So what are the ties that bind us? I open up this conversation to you as well. Do you have a personal ranking? Is blood thicker than water? I believe that we are all connected. We have spiritual ties that bind us. Our souls recognize each other on some level and we are all here to touch each others lives, help each other learn and grow, and love one another on any level or ranking that we can. How about you? What are your thoughts on this topic?

(I appreciate and respect all opinions however please lets express them while keeping them positive and uplifting to others)
